
KATHMANDU, SEPTEMBER 7 - Student unions including those affiliated with ruling parties have submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai putting forth various demands including withdrawal of recently hiked fuel prices.
Among the student unions which had reached Pm Baburam Bhattrai's official residence in Baluwatar to submit the memo were ANNISU- Revolutionary, Madhesi Students union- Democratic and Nepal Students Federation. Their demands include among others, the making of a work-plan to regulate fuel price, provision for ration cards and implementation of agreements reached with student unions at different times in the past.
Student and Youth associations from opposition parties have also been protesting the government's decision to hike the prices of petroleum products since September 4. The government, on the other hand has termed its price hike decision as a compulsion and has instead pledged subsidies for students and low-income groups.
